On July 23rd, the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic Games took place in Tokyo. Athletes from all around the world will compete in 33 sports and there will be 339 medals to win.

The opening ceremony for the Olympic Games in Japan is on July 23rd. The theme of the Opening Ceremony is “Emotions United.” They are trying to unite the world through sport, since there has been a COVID-19 pandemic. The performances will be based on Japanese culture, and will be reinterpreted through modernity. There was no audience at this ceremony because of all of the emergency situations happening in Tokyo because of COVID-19.

950 people attended the Olympics. There were 10,000 athletes from 206 countries. The parade of participating countries’ delegations took place on a limited scale. The Greek team and the refugee team were the first to enter the National Stadium in Tokyo as part of the parade. The Republic of Korea’s representatives, consisting of 32 people, came out 103rd in the parade. Swimmer Hwang Sung-woo and volleyball player Kim Young-kyung carried their banner.

A big event is coming. The 17-day event will feature 339 medal events and medals from around the world. The competition begins on July 24, and South Koreans will compete for medals in archery, fencing, shooting, and taekwondo. Preliminary competitions in badminton, boxing, gymnastics, and swimming will happen on the same day.
